Beverly Hills Cop (1984)

Last summer at the E3 gaming show Star Trek’s Leonard Nimoy and Zoe Saldana helped announced the ‘video karaoke’ game, due out next month. Because doctors claim there is no cure, this problem seems like a life sentence. Perform the lines as written in English, Spanish, French, Italian or German, or “flip the script” and deliver a personalized improvisation. Justifiably so, and it’s now out on Blu-ray. I’m gonna follow them! Perform the lines as written in English, Spanish, French, Italian or German, or flip the script and deliver a personalized improvisation.Yoostar 2 then scores the performance and lets players upload the scene to Facebook, Twitter, Yoostar 2s in-game social portal on Xbox LIVE online entertainment network and PlayStation Network, or When the companions return from a pool hall, a hired killer punches Axel unconscious as his boss, Zack, shoots Mikey dead as retribution for stealing the bonds.

Axel Foley, a cop in Detroit, received a surprise visit one day from his best friend from California. A television series continuing the Beverly Hills Cop adventures was just famously rejected. Whatever happened between Landis and Murphy, it led to the one time Eddie has ever directed, and “Harlem Nights” is a revealing look at the unbridled ego of a movie star who was already on the wane, even if he didn’t know it.  The film doesn’t work at all, but it was nice to see Red Foxx, Richard Pryor, and Eddie all in the same film.  I just wish it was a good film.  “Another 48 HRS” caught Eddie at the height of his Fat Elvis phase, and while I think the movie’s actually not bad, it’s more a case of Walter Hill making it work than anything else.  “Boomerang,” “The Distinguished Gentleman,” “Vampire In Brooklyn”… these are desperate, forgettable films that capture Eddie at his most disinterested.  He appears genuinely adrift in the films, not sure why he’s even on the set. It can be any three movies from a series. Yoostar 2 is currently available at all leading retail outlets throughout North America for an MSRP of $49.99. The Blues Brothers: It’s 106 miles to Chicago. Do I really need to explain why this is on my list?

I’m not including movies I haven’t seen no matter how many good things I hear about the legendary Pokémon trilogy. Is that it? Even Jenny, his friend from childhood who knows him well, is skeptical of his suspicions, so he has to work angles and find clues. My son James, at about age 8, was a poster child for ADHD — seriously, the kid was like Tigger on crack. “Beverly Hills Cop” was an instant success directed by Martin Brest. He wasn’t all that well-known as a director just yet, his former achievements having been little known “Hot Tomorrows” (1977) and a bit more known “Going In Style” (1979) which starred legendary George Burns and Art Carney. But perhaps Martin took notice in Eddie Murphy, the star of “Beverly Hills Cop”, when Martin directed a segment for NBC’s, “Saturday Night Live” in 1980.

After the success of “Beverly Hills Cop” which, I believe, launched Martin’s career, Martin went on to direct such notable films as “Midnight Run”, “Scent of a Woman”, and “Meet Joe Black”. Beverly Hills Cop was a big commercial hit on its release and its easy to see why as it is still a very enjoyable action comedy, and it was also one of the early buddy buddy cop films. Inspector Douglas Todd: [after pausing to think for a moment] All right. This is one of Morgan Freeman’s finest performances and that’s really saying something. Perhaps many things. But let’s not get off point. “Beverly Hills Cop” starred, of course, Eddie Murphy (Axel), Judge Reinhold (“Billy”), John Ashton (Taggart), Lisa Eilbacher (“Jenny”), Ronny Cox (Lt.

Andrew Bogomil), and Steven Berkoff (Victor Maitland). It also co-starred James Russo (Mikey Tandino), Paul Reiser (Jeffrey), Bronson Pinchot (Serge), and Gilbert R. Hill (Insp. Reactivation causes recurrent disease (oral or genital herpes) , but most often it leads to shedding of infectious virus from the skin or mucous membranes, thus leading to further transmission of the virus. If you don’t know the name Gilbert R. Meet the Fockers: Look at this! About 40% of men and 70% of women develop other symptoms during initial outbreaks of genital herpes, such as flu-like discomfort, headache, muscle aches, fever, and swollen glands.

& Oh, Lord – it’s Mike Tyson The Italian Job: I’m Handsome Rob. That one was not good at all, but here it’s much better. Lieutenant Bogomil: Yes, sir. “Beverly Hills Cop” had an amazing soundtrack which included such chartbusters as “The Heat Is On” by Glenn Frey, “Neutron Dance” by The Pointer Sisters, “New Attitude” by Patti LaBelle, “Nasty Girl” by Vanity and, of course, the “Axel F” theme written and performed by Harold Faltermeyer himself. Bobomil is intrigued by the discovery, he cannot issue a warrant without proof, and his boss, Chief Hubbard, expels Axel from Beverly Hills. 3. One aspect that I really liked in the film was the relationship between Axel Foley and Jenny Summers.

As the movie proved to be an enormous hit, he framed the quarter and hung it upon his wall. I saw this one again not so long ago. Meet the Parents: Can you deal with that! Up in Smoke: Anybody got any coffee? Checked into my hotel, the Residence Inn in Downtown LA around 1PM PST. A great example of why this is a list for today. Axel Foley was originally going to be played by Sylvester Stallone or Mickey Rourke.

Beverly Hills Cop (1984)
Stallone left the project and used some of his script ideas to make “Cobra”. And, while this is anathema to Tolkien lovers, I actually enjoyed the film adaptations more than the books. 6. In the process of casting the characters of Rosewood and Taggart, the director paired up various finalists and asked them to do some improvisation to get a feel for the chemistry between the actors. He paired up Judge Reinhold and John Ashton and gave them the following direction: “You are a middle aged couple, married for years. You are having a conversation on an average evening.” Judge Reinhold immediately picked up a nearby magazine and the two improvised the “5 pounds of red meat in his bowels” bit almost verbatim as it eventually appeared in the movie. The film naturally as it is an 80s flick also looks quite dated to its period and the fashions are blatantly outrageous, and most of all the cheesy 80s music tracks are pretty duff and cringeworthy to listen to, particularly the track used in the strip bar called, Vanity 6’s “Nasty girl” and “Stir it up” by Patty LeBelle.

Are you hiding something from me? It’s real. Only after Martin Brest cast Judge Reinhold and John Ashton was the decision made to keep Rosewood alive due to his chemistry with Taggart. 8. Inspector Todd of the Detroit Police was played by then Detroit Police Department Homicide Dectective Gilbert R. Hill. Det Hill later ran and won a seat on and served as President of the Detroit City Council.

9. The shooting script was literally pasted together from the half dozen or so scripts written for this project over the years. When they were stuck, Eddie Murphy would improvise dialog or create a scene. 10. Docosanol cream (Abreva) is the only FDA-approved non-prescription ointment for oral herpes. Top Gun: Flight Simulator. Brest and crew, however, soldiered on with their work, unescorted.

You go in there without probable cause, they’re gonna call it an illegal search. The T-shirt that Eddie Murphy wears in the film is from Mumford, an actual Detroit area school attended by one of the filmmakers. When film came out, the school received orders for the shirts from customers all over the world. 13. See, you can learn some things here on Naptown Nerd. Such a system did not exist at the time and was made up to advance the plot, but later did come into existence in real life. Epic.

Bronson Pinchot got the accent and mannerisms for his character Serge from a crew member he worked with on a earlier project. Like his character, that crew member always said, “Don’t be stupid.” 15. Yes, he really did say that and no, I don’t believe it for a second. Rewatchability City. 16. Originally, two men were supposed to be working in the art gallery scenes. Quote Occasionally Heard Around This House: Lord, how do I narrow it down?

The second actor shows up only briefly with his shirt collar open too wide, on which Serge comments. 18. The city hall building seen in the film is the actual Beverly Hills City Hall. However, the exterior was very run-down and the plants were dying, so the film crew had to clean it up and grow new plants so it would look better on film. 19. Police Chief Hubbard (played by Stephen Elliott) walks into his first scene carrying some rolled-up sheets of paper. DeNiro made this character come to life with his vacant, terrifyingly dangerous eyes and it remains one of the greatest performances of all time.

20. Eddie Murphy improvised much of his comic lines, as did John Ashton and Judge Reinhold. Literally hundreds of takes were ruined by cast members or actors or the director himself, who were unable to stop laughing during shooting because of this. During the “super-cops” monologue, Ashton is pinching his face hard and looking down in apparent frustration. If you look closely, you can see that he is actually laughing. Reinhold put his hand in his pocket and pinched his thigh really hard to prevent himself from laughing. Speaking of the “super-cops” scene…

21. When filming the scenes in the police station sequences, Eddie Murphy became very tired. Recent studies indicate that acyclovir (Zovirax) or valacyclovir (Valtrex) or famciclovir (Famvir)Valtrex can help reduce the recurrence of genital herpes and the need for Cesarean sections. Eventually, Murphy relented and took small sips of coffee to stay awake. As a result of his first caffeine intake, Murphy became very energized and ad-libbed the “super-cops” monologue. “Beverly Hills Cop” was the highest grossing R-rated film in the US until “The Passion of the Christ” (2004) came out 20 years later. That film’s gross was again surpassed by “The Hangover” (2009).

Axel Foley: Tell Victor that Ramon – -the fella he met about a week ago? – -tell him that Ramon went to the clinic today, and I found out that I have, um, herpes simplex 10, and I think Victor should go check himself out with his physician to make sure everything is fine before things start falling off on the man.
