Detection of type-specific antibody to herpes simplex virus type 1 and 2 in human sera by complement-fixation tests

Detection of type-specific antibody to herpes simplex virus type 1 and 2 in human sera by complement-fixation tests

The total and fractioned titres of circulating anticytomegalovirus (CMV) and antiherpesvirus (HSV) antibodies were evaluated in 63 idiopathic ulcerative proctocolitis patients in follow-up. Procedure A utilized infectious virus propagated in mouse cells, and procedure B utilized mouse cells infected with herpes simplex virus in the presence of cycloheximide and harvested 1 h after removal of the inhibitor. Synergism of certain antibody combinations in dose–effect assays has been previously demonstrated. The sensitivity and specificity of the screening assay and of the assay for type-specific antibodies were established. E., Wildy, P.: Herpes simplex viruses: Discrimination of types and correlation between different characteristics. After data were controlled for several markers of sexual activity (such as number of sex partners, human immunodeficiency virus infection, and past episode(s) of gonorrhea), it appeared that the decline in HSV seroprevalence was explained by a concurrent decrease in the presence of these markers. By following the serum titer after a primary infection, we have found that 12 out of 19 persons studied had detectable dTK antibodies after an average time of 179 days.

The type-specific antibody responses in rabbits immunized with both types of herpes simplex virus (HSV), measured by complement-requiring neutralizing (CRN) and slow-reacting CRN (s-CRN) antibody assays were compared. Compared with the results of NT, the sensitivities of the IE and ABC-E for serum were both 100% (45/45), and for saliva 82.2% (37/45) and 93.3% (42/45), respectively. I got the rash on a Monday, fixed the appointment on a Tuesday and had the appointment on Wednesday. Papers covering microbiology and immunology which have an epidemiological relevance are part of this broad field. The endpoint of s-CRN antibody so determined was but slightly lower than that obtained by the plaque reduction test. When used in a solid-phase radioimmunoassay, gC proved to be a type-specific antigen for quantitation of antibody to HSV-1. The results illustrated that antigens commonly used successfully in ELISAs cannot always be transferred for use in alternative assay systems.
