The desire to obtain authentically glycosylated viral protein products in sufficient quantity for immunological study has led to the use of eucaryotic expression vectors for protein production. The ability of animals to respond serologically to DNA injections was in part dependent on the quantity of DNA injected and was also negatively affected by carrier DNA. Two Italian Holstein-Friesian cows, 5 and 6 years old, from the same herd were referred to the Teaching Hospital of the Department of Veterinary Science of Turin University because of acute onset of pyrexia, pruritus, and skin lesions. This was the first possible date to collect samples postcalving. Ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid-blood samples, sterile nasal swabs and serum samples were obtained for virological and serological diagnosis. The frontal cortex (Fc), parietal cortex (Pc), thalamus (T) and mesencephalon (M) were studied. Indeed, only 1,167 Escherichia coli contaminant reads had to be discarded from the data, indicating less than 2.38% of contaminated reads, compared to the previously reported 62.72% contaminating cellular reads in .
