Abstract: : Purpose: Feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV-1) – an alphaherpesvirus with biological behavior very similar to herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) – is a common cause of ocular disease in cats worldwide. FHV-1 replicates predominantly in the mucosal epithelium of the oral and nasal cavities, local immunity should therefore be the key target for vaccine development.
