TabooPrincess: Honestly I don’t know because mine was diagnosed when I had an outbreak but there must be some blood test or something?! I was diagnosed with HSV 1 and 2 after a sexual assault and I was also very afraid that I had contracted HIV based on my odd symptoms compared to “classic” HSV cases (I’m 23 btw). The confidence indicates the estimated reliability of the reputation. If you are HIV positive and disclose this in our forums, then it is almost the same thing as telling the whole world (or at least the World Wide Web). The large, randomized and placebo-controlled clinical trial involved 3,408 African couples in which one partner was HIV positive (but not on medication) and had HSV-2. Preliminary data were presented at the 15th Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections in 2008. Forums members must behave at all times with respect and honesty.

I told her I hadn’t been accepted. ARV treatment can help protect and repair the immune system. Getting adequate amounts of sleep and exercise, and eating well-balanced meals, is often difficult. Acyclovir is available in a topical cream, pills, and an intravenous formulation. Men whose CD4 counts had ever been particularly low, known as the CD4 nadir, were also at greatest risk of osteopenia. Additionally, all forums members must post information which are true and correct to their knowledge. New members — those who have posted three or fewer messages — are permitted to post questions and responses, free of charge (make them count!).

Ongoing participation in the “Am I Infected?” forum — posting more than three questions or responses — requires a paid subscription. Many heterosexuals report that it is a pleasurable form of intimacy that eliminates the risk of pregnancy. Side effects include mood changes, dizziness, difficulty concentrating, feeling high, weakness or lack of coordination, anxiety, confusion, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting diarrhea, warmth or tingly feeling, insomnia. Similarly, all POZ pages, including our “HIV Transmission and Risks” and “Am I Infected? And if you think about having one of your boys intimidating me, you can forget that! NOTE: HIV testing questions will still need to be posted in the “Am I Infected?” forum; attempts to post HIV symptoms or testing questions in any other forums will be considered violations of our rules of membership and subject to time-outs and permanent bans. Roughly half of the participants received 400 mg of acyclovir twice a day, and half received a placebo.

These early results from a clinical trial conducted by Vertex Pharmaceuticals were reported in a press release from the company. I just took my 3-month rapid finger prick test and NEGATIVE!! I am ecstatic. I like to think that everything happens for a reason and I was CONVINCED I had HIV for the past month (I had even made a career and social plan for such a diagnosis). Granted, HSV is no happy diagnoses after such a terrible experience but I can live with that. After the prospect of a possible HIV diagnosis, HSV is NOTHING in comparison and it makes me so sad on the HSV forums when people are suicidal and such, at something so minor and COMMON (1 out of every 4)!! I would like to thank all you members on this site.

I was a little bit of a stalker and read all your posts. You are all such amazing people and I hope the best for you! In fact, I am close to graduating with my PharmD and this site, all you members and your stories, have convinced me to specialize in HIV/AIDs patient med management and RESEARCH. I was having a hard time finding a direction with my degree… I knew I didn’t want to be a “plain ol’ CVS pharmacist” and now I have found a specific passion in the field and I have all of you to thank! Bent, Washington,DC, 2012-01-17 23:43:28 The viral load in the original infected partner was the main driver of transmission, with the risk increasing 2.9 times for every log increase in viral load. Even though I was not diagnosed with HIV (I thank my lucky stars) I want to dedicate my life to HIV/Aids activism and research. Keep strong and adherent in your meds (HIV/Aids med adherence counseling was beat into us- I have very knowledgeable professors who believe that medication started early and proper adherence is the way to beat the virus- keep it up!).

I also knew that being HIV positive was nobody’s fault but mine, which made it even harder to face the situation sober, and stay sober. Ann- you are wonderful and very attentive to the website- Kudos! I’m sure you have made a world of difference to fellow HIV patients, you should be very proud of yourself (I’m sure you are aware of how amazing you are ☺ ). Haha.. honestly some of the “am I infected” questions crack me up!!! While the risk may be slight, state agriculture officials say they fear that inspectors might spread the virus from one flock to another as they visit egg facilities. Thanks again for the inspiration members!

You might want to talk to your doctor about taking acyclovir as a prophylactic for herpes. It’s a very well tolerated drug and will save you the pain of outbreaks and also make you less likely to transmit herpes to others. Here’s what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection. Remember, it’s not only attackers who may expose you to hiv, and not everyone accurately knows their hiv status regardless of what they may tell you. Be smart and protect yourself, every time, no exceptions. You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI.

Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever. Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs. If you aren’t already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.
